Matryoshka meets the Black Forest

This watercolor collection reflects my personal world between Russian and German Black Forest culture. They show two different influences I grew up with that ultimately shaped me as a person.

So it's a very personal collection.

This matryoshka wears a traditional Russian robe, which was mainly worn by nobles for traditional festivities in the days of the Tsars.

I grew up with these two matryoshkas, as they are still in my parents' house today. The little matryoshka is part of this set.

This Matryoshka is dressed in traditional Black Forest clothing from the Gutach area - that's where the famous Bollenhuts come from.
